(NEW YEAR)

خاونده بيا سپرلے شو دنيا يو کال واړَو‍‌ٔ

Here's springtime again, man! World has seen off another year

چاپه ژړا واړوؤ، چاپه وصال واَړؤ

Some suffered no end, some had their love returned

چا د نتو په شان په ساګ او دال واَړو

Some like Nathu whiled it away eating spinach and lantels

چا د صاحب په شان دَ بل په مال واَړو

Some had it like a sahib on wealth filched from others

څوک په سفر لاړل بلخوا ئے مال واَړو

Some went sightseeing throwing away their wealth

چا د جانان په سَر دَ خاورو شال واَړو

Some by wrapping up their beloved in mantle of earth

چا دَ ګُنګرو په شان په شرنګا شرنګ تير که

Some bided it like a ghungroo in the din of music

چادَ سپوږمےُ په شان په رنګارنګ تير که

Some indulged themselves colorfully like the sparkling moon

او غنی داهم ربه لکه پخوا واړَؤ

And Ghani, O Lord! Bided this one too like ol'times

څه ےُ په خندا واړَؤ څه ےُ په ژړا واَړو،

Now laughing it off, now crying it out
